I made these two oni faces to mark the release of *The Great Book of Oni*, to go with my stalls, just like the red oni figurine.

First, a few layers of extruded polystyrene. I glued two transparent plastic half-spheres onto these, having first painted the insides gold.

Then I modelled the faces out of papier mâché. For the horns, I stuck pieces of wooden chopsticks straight into the polystyrene, then covered them with papier mâché. The teeth and fangs are made of polystyrene.

Once everything was dry, I protected the eyes with masking tape and coated everything in black. I then dry-brushed the skin in red and blue respectively, and the horns in grey. As for the eyes, once the masking tape was removed, the black cardboard pupils were simply glued on.

I then glued them onto polystyrene sheets. Beforehand, I had carved veins into the sheets to give them a wood-like appearance, then painted them black and dry-brushed them with shades of brown, gradually getting lighter.
